Full day sail in the islands
A 5 hour sail out of Bayfield, Wisconsin aboard "S" a 33' Cheoy Lee Clipper. Set sail on Lake Superior and enjoy the sights of the North or West Channel, LaPointe, Madeline, Basswood and the surrounding islands.
Enjoy the original teak decks, two sitka spruce masts and the elegant lines that make for a classic maritime experience. Meet at our dock located in Bayfield.
NPS AuthorizeD Outfitter
True North Sailing Charters is a National Park Service authorized outfitter permitted to guide trips in Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Outfitters are vetted by the National Park Service and must meet high standards for safety, guide training, and environmental stewardship.
Bayfield Adventure Sail
A 5 Hour sailing experience in Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Trip routes are dependent on wind and weather conditions that day as well as your preference but possibilities include visiting the sandstone shorelines, sand-spits and lighthouses in the surrounding area on Hermit, Oak, or Long Island. Half day trips depart from our Bayfield location.
We use our catamaran, Piper on half day trips. The shallow draft allows us to access secluded beaches and explore remote island coastlines. The spacious shaded salon leads to the forward trampolines that are great for sun bathing and watching the water rush past beneath you.

The Sailboat
"Starling" is a 33' Cheoy Lee Clipper designed by A.E. Bill Luders Jr. and built in Hong Kong in 1972. Original teak decks, two sitka spruce masts, and elegant lines make for a classic maritime experience as you step aboard this ketch rigged beauty. Starling has called Bayfield home for all of her life sailing the waters and channels of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and Lake Superior for the past 50 years under three different owners.
The ketch rig is particularly suitable for Lake Superiors notoriously variable wind and weather making multiple sail options a "breeze" from a billowing drifter setup for light wind days to a dependable favorite for heavier weather, the"Jib and Jigger" two sail combo. This hard working vessel provides a forgiving sail for beginners, is not afraid of heavy seas, and will really shine under a stiff beam reach.
An updated suite of Raymarine electronics provides reliable data while her electric motor installed in 2021 provides a quiet ride out of the slip and allows for quick and easy engagement of auxiliary power when needed.

Full payment is due at the time of booking or boarding to secure your reservation.

Cancellations made before we leave the dock will receive a full refund.

Cancellations made after we’ve departed for your pickup, as well as no-shows, are non-refundable.
If weather or lake conditions make travel unsafe, we may need to cancel or reschedule your trip. In that case, you’ll receive a full refund or the option to reschedule.
